Area Measurement Tool

Measure polygon area on an interactive map with geodesic accuracy. Draw polygons directly or import GeoJSON, Shapefile and WKT to calculate area instantly.

Measure Polygon Area on a Map

Draw a polygon by clicking on the map, or import existing geometry. Area is calculated instantly in your preferred unit.

Supported Area Units

Example

Drawn polygon area:
  1 250 000 m² = 125 ha = 308.9 acres

How to Use the Area Measurement Tool

  1. Open the Area Measurement Tool.
  2. Click on the map to place polygon vertices.
  3. Close the polygon by clicking the first vertex or double-clicking.
  4. The area is displayed in square meters, hectares, acres or square kilometers.
  5. Import a GeoJSON, Shapefile or WKT polygon to measure an existing shape.

Area Measurement Tool – Frequently Asked Questions

What area units are supported?

Square meters (m²), hectares (ha), square kilometers (km²), acres and square miles.

Are area calculations geodesic?

Yes — area is calculated using a spherical excess algorithm that accounts for the curvature of the Earth, giving accurate results for large polygons.

Can I import a polygon to measure its area?

Yes — import GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, WKT or CSV and the area is displayed for each polygon feature automatically.

Does it support polygons with holes (interior rings)?

Yes — polygons with interior rings are supported. The hole area is subtracted from the outer ring area to give the net polygon area.

Can I switch units after drawing?

Yes — use the unit selector in the measurement panel to switch between square meters, hectares, acres and other units without redrawing.
