Distance Measurement Tool

Measure geodesic distances between any two points on an interactive map. Draw lines, import GeoJSON or Shapefile, and get accurate results in metric or imperial units.

Measure Distance on a Map

Click points on the map to draw a measurement line. The geodesic distance is shown instantly in your preferred unit.

Supported Distance Units

Example

London → Paris
Geodesic distance: 340 km

How to Use the Distance Measurement Tool

  1. Open the Distance Measurement Tool.
  2. Click on the map to place the starting point.
  3. Click additional points to build a multi-segment path.
  4. The cumulative distance updates after each click.
  5. Double-click to finish, or import a LineString to measure an existing path.

Distance Measurement Tool – Frequently Asked Questions

What distance units are supported?

Meters, kilometers, miles and feet.

Does it measure in a straight line or follow roads?

The tool measures straight-line geodesic distance (as the crow flies). It does not follow roads or terrain.

Can I measure the length of an imported line?

Yes — import a GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML or WKT LineString and the total path length is calculated automatically.

How accurate is the distance measurement?

Distance is calculated using the Haversine formula and is accurate to within 0.5% of the true geodesic distance for all latitudes.

Can I measure multi-segment paths?

Yes — click multiple points to create a multi-segment path. The total distance is the sum of all individual segment lengths.
