GIS Measurement Tool

Measure GIS distances, areas, and perimeters online with geodesic accuracy. Draw lines and polygons on an interactive map, import spatial files, and get instant results in metric or imperial units.

Measure on an Interactive Map

Click points on the map to draw measurement lines and polygons. Results update in real time in your chosen unit system.

Supported Measurements

Example

Istanbul → Ankara
Geodesic distance: 352 km

How to Use the GIS Measurement Tool

  1. Select the Measurement tool from the toolbar.
  2. Click on the map to place the first point.
  3. Continue clicking to add more points and build a line or polygon.
  4. The cumulative distance or area updates in real time with each click.
  5. Import a GeoJSON, Shapefile or WKT file to measure existing geometries automatically.

GIS Measurement Tool – Frequently Asked Questions

What does geodesic measurement mean?

Geodesic measurements follow the curvature of the Earth, giving accurate distance and area values for any location on the globe — unlike planar measurements which can be inaccurate over large distances.

What units are supported?

Distance: meters, kilometers, miles and feet. Area: square meters, hectares, square kilometers, square miles and acres.

Can I measure an imported shape?

Yes — import GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, WKT or CSV and measurements are calculated automatically for each feature.

How accurate are the measurements?

Distance uses the Haversine formula and area uses the spherical excess formula, both accurate to within 0.5% for typical geographic regions.

Can I measure perimeter and area of the same polygon?

Yes — draw or import a polygon and the tool shows both its perimeter (length) and area simultaneously.
